PREPARATION
For optimal results, we recommend close shaving, though it's not mandatory, especially for women. Your doctor will discuss options during consultation.
For Men
The donor area (back of head) is typically shaved. Shaving the recipient area (top) depends on the area of implantation required.
For Women
A narrow strip on the back of the head can be shaved and concealed by surrounding hair, ensuring discretion post-treatment.

BEFORE PROCEDURE
POST-TREATMENT
RECOVERY
Post-treatment, you can resume normal activities. However, we recommend a few days of home rest for optimal recovery. Avoid sweat-inducing activities (sports) for a week to protect implanted hair growth.
Day 2
Mild discomfort, swelling, or itching may occur, signalling normal healing and regrowth.
Day 5
As minor scarring resolves, you can resume shampooing and wearing headgear.
REGROWTH
Week 2 - 8
Some transplanted hairs may fall out during this period. This is a normal process. The hair stem cells remain in the skin and after 5-6 months the new hairs will start growing.
Month 3 - 4
Expect complete hair regrowth in both donor and recipient areas. Your doctor will continue monitoring your progress throughout this period.
COMPLETE
Month 9
The hair growth cycle completes in 9 months. Results are permanent, with transplanted follicles behaving like natural hair. If desired, a second procedure can be considered at this point for enhanced results.
POSSIBLE POST-PROCEDURAL EFFECTS
-
Mild swelling is normal and is only temporary. Usually, the swelling is at its worst 3-4 days after the procedure. Keep your head straight and not bent forward, be especially cautious when using laptops/ electronic devices.
-
Itching can occur in the donor area 2 days after the procedure. This is caused by the healing of the skin and the regrowth of the hair. To ease the itching, you can use the cool pack on the donor area. And apply ‘Calendulan emulsion’ onto the donor area.
-
Crust formation will occur in the recipient area, this will disappear after 7 to 10 days. Do not scratch the crusts as scars can form. The crusting will improve when you start washing the recipient area.
-
Numbness can occur in the treated area. This is only a temporary condition. The nerve endings will reconnect by themselves.
-
Inflammation of hair follicles. Small pimples can form in the recipient area. To ease the irritation, you can apply a warm, damp compress for a few minutes 2-3 times a day. Please do not squeeze the pimples as it can lead to infection. If pain, swelling, discharge and excessive redness develops, contact our clinic.
-
Shock loss. Most transplanted hairs will fall out after 2 to 8 weeks, this is a normal process. The hair stem cells remain in the skin and after 5-6 months the new hairs will start growing.
-
Pain/ pin prick sensation. Sometimes the appearance of new hair and formation of new blood vessels and nerves may cause pain that feels like pinpricks and cause small pimples in both the donor area and the recipient area. This is a normal phenomenon. You can use "Calendulan emulsion” to help ease this.
-
Bleeding. After the procedure, a little bleeding can occur in the recipient area. To protect the grafts, please do not touch the recipient area. The best is to let it dry in open air. Outside the recipient area you can clean the skin without any problems.
Please contact clinic if the treated area becomes red, painful, abnormal skin colour, discharge.
HARVEST
The procedure begins with donor hair extraction from the back of the head:
Anaesthetics
Local anaesthesia is used, ensuring you remain conscious but pain-free. The initial pinch is milder than dental anaesthesia.
Harvest of donor hair
Ultra-fine 0.5-0.6mm needles prepare for harvesting. You'll feel almost no discomfort throughout this process while you lie on your stomach for a few hours. Take breaks whenever you feel necessary. The most significant advantage of FOLLIGEM is that your donor hair will regrow again.
Preservation Solution
Extracted grafts are placed in Folligem's patented solution, which enhances both graft survival and post-implantation hair growth.
Approximate Time = 2 to 4 hours, depending on grafts
